Molecular phylogeography of forest tree species using newly developed genomic resources (EST-SSRs and SNPs)

Description

The increasing availability of new molecular markers, in particular microsatellites located in transcribed regions of the genome (EST-SSR) and SNPs, enable a better characterisation of the processes that may be responsible for the current distribution patterns of forest tree species.

This EVOLTREE training course will focus on using these newly developed genetic and genomic tools to investigate the processes of population differentiation and demographic history in several woody species occurring in Central and South-eastern Europe (e.g. silver fir, hornbeam, oaks).

It will teach how acquired knowledge can be used to identify and conserve new valuable forest genetic resources. Genetic delimitation of ecologically divergent taxa and evaluation of the adaptive potential of forest tree species under climate change will also be tackled.
