I attended a summer school titled "Modeling Assisted Migration to Adapt Forests and Ecosystem Services to Climate Change," held at a beautiful forest training center in Traunkirchen, Austria, from July 29th to August 2nd. This experience was incredibly valuable for me, as my research focuses on assisted migration, and I plan to model the response of tree species to various climate scenarios in my future work. Since I am still in the process of planning my research methodology, the summer school greatly enhanced my understanding of the topic and introduced me to a range of tools and approaches. The organizers did an excellent job with the practical sessions, guiding us step-by-step through the source code. This hands-on experience helped me gain a solid understanding of their approach to modeling assisted migration, and I am eager to integrate some of their methods into my research. Additionally, I improved my skills in writing effective and readable code in R. I have already been collaborating with colleagues at BfW on a manuscript focusing on assisted migration, so this summer school was also a fantastic opportunity to meet them in person and discuss potential future collaborations.
