The second EVOLTREE conference, entitled “Resilient Forests for the Future,” held from September 12 to 15, 2023, in Brasov, Romania, was a highly informative and well-organized event. It provided a platform for researchers, scientists, and experts in the fields of tree genomics, evolutionary genomics, conservation genomics, and tree breeding to share their knowledge, insights, and research findings. It was a great way to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in these important areas. In addition, the session on innovative methods and approaches, such as remote sensing and genomic tools, was enlightening. It highlighted the importance of leveraging technology to support forest resilience.
The keynote speakers delivered insightful talks that shed light on the latest research and developments. Their presentations were both engaging and informative. The conference had a fantastic mix of oral presentations and posters that covered a wide range of topics, ensuring that attendees received a holistic view of the field.
I had the opportunity to present my poster, entitled “Genomic evaluation for breeding and genetic management in Cordia africana - a multipurpose tropical tree species,” during a poster slam session and in the poster area. The poster session provided a platform to showcase my work and an opportunity to meet and discuss with other researchers in the area of tree genomics. The conference was also great for networking and sparking potential collaborations.
Overall, the conference was a big success, providing a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and networking within the field. I would like to thank the EVOLTREE network for the financial support to attend this conference.
