Dr Tom August is a computational ecologist based with the Biological Records Centre at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology. He works at the interface of digital innovation, ecological research, and citizen science, exploring in particular how new technologies can break down barriers between researchers and the public, allowing greater public engagement in research. He has interests in data acquisition, decision-making under uncertainty and data science methods, and has led development of the use of artificial intelligence in image analysis for automated biodiversity monitoring
